We explain and assess research
We make complex research more understandable, distinguish different forms of evidence and identify where conclusions exceed the underlying data.
AFEGA Research GroupAbout AFEGA
The AFEGA Research Group was created to examine ageing and longevity without separating biological questions from the human questions that accompany a longer life.
Led by Peter Niehenke, Ph. D., it is a privately funded research group whose central task is scientific orientation: understanding research, assessing its limits and making the resulting judgement transparent.
What we do
We make complex research more understandable, distinguish different forms of evidence and identify where conclusions exceed the underlying data.
Scientific findings, alternative positions, reported experiences, safety information and open questions are organised so that public communication can be updated when knowledge changes.
Scientific and practical questions can lead to the evaluation of substances, formulations and quality priorities. Product development is one part of AFEGA’s work, not a substitute for scientific assessment.
AFEGA has undertaken explorative research projects and treats their limitations as part of the result, including when an original expectation was not confirmed.
Additional years raise questions about identity, development, loss, freedom, purpose and finitude. We consider them alongside biology without turning them into medical or spiritual promises.
Our history
The history of the AFEGA Research Group and the AFEGA Anti-Aging Shop is connected. An early research question concerned whether longer-term NMN use might be reflected in the epiAge measure available at the time. Providing the substance and tests for a larger group was financially demanding. The idea of offering NMN commercially developed in part as a way to make research and product development possible.
The project did not provide a robust answer to its original research question and established neither a rejuvenating effect nor a slowing of ageing. That outcome remains part of AFEGA’s research history: inconclusive work is reported as inconclusive, not recast as success.
The shop later became more than a funding route. It also became a place for practical product development and sales. This history creates a real commercial interest and a clear responsibility to keep scientific assessment and product communication distinct.

AFEGA’s scientific, product-related and commercial activities are connected, but they are not interchangeable.

describes what a person notices in their own life.
The existence of a product must not determine the scientific conclusion. Conversely, limited clinical evidence does not make every substance or research question irrelevant. The appropriate response is to state the evidence level, disclose relevant interests and allow informed judgement.
Who is publicly responsible?
Peter Niehenke, Ph. D., leads the AFEGA Research Group and is the publicly named responsible contact for its work and communication.
Our understanding of responsibility
Responsibility means more than adding disclaimers. It means keeping different forms of knowledge distinct, revising conclusions when evidence changes, communicating safety and uncertainty in proportion to what is known and making commercial interests visible where they matter.
It also means respecting autonomy. AFEGA provides orientation and states its assessment; it does not claim the final authority to decide what another person experiences or what values should guide that person’s life.
